I’m in Chicago and I think the Newberry Library is slept on!!! Lots of free exhibitions and cool resources. I’m waiting for a free talk with Carmen Maria Machado RIGHT NOW.
Missoula, Montana, which is home to literally the “best public library in the world (2022).” I’m the director and we are co-planning IndigiPalooza for August. It will be a huge arts fest. Joy Harjo is the headliner with many more amazing creators joining us!
Los Angeles has a Community Gathering & fundraiser/book drive for LA County Jails tomorrow night 5/24. Entry $5 or 5 books. Details @ Instagram for Critical Resistance LA or API Rise Los Angeles
wow wow wow this tux rental info is news I can use. Even here in Seattle, where I will be the one tux in a sea of sweats and Patagonia at the ballet. Truly going to give it a try.
Firstly, I've been listening to Etran all afternoon and evening, dancing along while cooking, so good! V sad but not exactly surprised they aren't coming to the UK. The whole Sahel Sounds Bandcamp is going on my list for next Bandcamp Friday tbh. Secondly, goddamn, you look so good in a tux. 🔥🔥🔥
I had the incredible fortune to see Etran de L'AÏr for free at Festival International in Lafayette, LA and they blew my mind!!! 🤯 especially their jam sesh with Lost Bayou Ramblers, so beautiful. Thank you for the playlist!
Chicago also has a surprising number of nature pockets. The Montrose point bird sanctuary, park 566 and west ridge nature preserve see dozens of bird species during migration and bring such a sense of contentment and peace any time of year.
A friend shared this post with your 100% Sahara playlist this morning and I finished in one day. I had slowly been building an African country playlist collection over the last few years, so you have helped reignite that project!
Thank you so much for your work on this outstanding playlist.
Well I have finished three (Zambia, Ghana, Nigeria) so I still have a ways to go 😅 but I have a website where I included links to each playlist, plus another playlist focused on international artists here - https://bit.ly/playlist-world-tour
This week in Lancaster, Pennsylvania I am painting hex signs with Pride colors and symbols for local events in June. Sending mail to out of town friends with new stamps (Keith Haring).

it’s so annoying how effective it is. Enjoy.
I have not purchased a band tee in about 20 years despite attending many shows but L’Etran de l’Air broke my streak!! No regrets!
I was so mad they didn’t have the Sahara guitar one in my size 😭😭

The tux is perfection. in Oslo Norway, I’ll be hoping from antique market to food festival and finishing with a margarita

Ooooooh! Mike, that sounds like such a cool project! Will you be sharing your playlist publicly? Either way, I'm glad it's been reignited 🙌🏾
